Euro chaos, double dip recession, shortage of bank funding, political 'u' turns, austerity budgets..............hardly the time to sell your business, you might think.

But on the other hand there are factors driving a healthy M&A market.  For example:

  • major PLCs have an estimated £30 billion of cash looking for investment
  • cash rich private equity houses
  • expanding their portfolios
  • foreign investors see UK assets as providing a safe haven in the economic storm
  • the need to create growth in shareholder value in otherwise flat markets
  • a benign capital gains tax environment

All these features combined with what for many entrepreneurs is the key deciding factor - that they aren't getting any younger and business is not getting an easier - mean that we are seeing high levels of activity from buyers and sellers of businesses.

As in any market the key to successful selling (defined in the context of selling a SME as maximising post tax proceeds) it is to present the best features and potential of a business, to the buyers with the most to gain within a process which allows buyers to transact with confidence.

At James Cowper Kreston Corporate Finance we have over 70 years experience of selling SME businesses.  Consquently we have developed a sale process which ensures you maximise your post tax proceeds from a sale of your business.  We do this by:

  1. ensuring the right buyers enter the process
  2. the business being sold is presented to the market in the best possible condition
  3. that the value is not eroded by the buyers' clever tactics
  4. that the tax cost of a transaction is minimised
